Meme comes to visit

Last Wednesday my mom flew into Indianapolis. She was nervous about flying by herself, and I was nervous about finding the airport and picking her up, but we both did it! We took her downtown to see the city, and of course to visit Rocket Fizz. We had fun walking around showing Meme the sights.

We had to let the kids get out some energy at the stairs of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Can't believe I got Colt to sit still.

Avery and me at the state capitol. We looked like such tourists trying to get this picture. Lucas Oil Stadium is only a few blocks down from here. I love how close everything is.

On Thursday I made the kids get up early for the first time in months. But it was for a good reason...we were going to Chicago for the day! As we were nearing the city it started pouring. My mom and I were calling people to look at the radar. It looked like we would have a few dry hours to explore. We started at Navy Pier, but it was a bust. It was under construction and there wasn't anything to do. So we found a parking garage in the Loop and just stayed in that area. We ate pizza at Giordano's in the Loop. This is the second time I've been there, and it is amazing deep dish pizza. I highly recommend it.

Luckily, fries were on the menu.

I did some researching on Pinterest before we came, and I found Magnolia Bakery. They are based out of New York, and I know I've heard of it from some TV show sometime. Good decision....it was so yummy. We got a couple cupcakes and my mom and I split some banana pudding.

After all that food, we needed to let the kids run off some energy. We went to Millennium Park and found the bean sculpture. The kids were amazed by it. As were all the other tourists. I watched a teenager take selfies in front of the bean for a good fifteen minutes.

The weather held off pretty good while we were there. When we got to Chicago we bought a couple of umbrellas and I found out quickly why it's called the Windy City.

We did some souvenir shopping and were all tired, so we decided to head home. We didn't do everything on our list, but we still had a blast.

On Friday my mom was a trooper and made the trek from Indianapolis to Birmingham with me and the kids. It was a challenge, but we made it! Now for a fun week in Birmingham getting to catch up with friends and celebrating LOTS of birthdays!
