Apparently we bring bad weather luck when we come to Indiana. Last year we were here until the first of October, and it was extremely hot. Then we were here in December and February, and it was the worst cold I could imagine. And now we have had an extremely hot summer while we've been here this year. Looking forward to some fall weather before we leave (if it ever comes).
Our camper is in the corner of the campground right next to a huge camper dealership. There's a big streetlight right beside our camper, so when we have a campfire, it's not fun because the streetlight is so bright. Oh, well...
The kids had two races planned for one weekend. On Saturday we did the Colts Finish at the 50. They were supposed to start outside Lucas Oil Stadium and run around and inside and finish on the 50 yard line. When we got there it was thundering so they had to move it inside. Along with all the 5k people we walked very slowly down, down, down, through the tunnel, and out onto the field. There was no running, but the kids got their medals.
By registering for the fun run we got 2 free tickets to a Colts preseason game. Daniel took Avery that night, and they had so much fun!! Avery loved every minute of it!
Woody and I got ice cream at the campground and stayed home for the night.
The next day was the Indy Mini-Mini at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The forecast was calling for super hot temperatures, so they shortened the races. These two ran the half mile race. I was so proud of them!! Especially Colt...this was his first time running ever. It was so hot, but fun memories were made.
The next week Meme came to visit. On Friday we went downtown to our usual spots. Monument Circle was decked out for a race at the IMS. I had to add these pictures. That bottom one could be me when I was five. So funny.
One reason my mom came was to keep the kids while Daniel and I spent the weekend in South Bend. Saturday was the opening day for college football, and College Gameday was in South Bend for the Notre Dame/Michigan game. We got there Friday night and immediately went to the bookstore to get some t-shirts. Everyone else in South Bend had the same idea.
We stayed about 45 minutes from South Bend but managed to get to campus before the sun came up. We even found free parking! We stood there for 2 hours until the show started. We got to see lots of interesting folks, and I realized further that there are rednecks everywhere. We felt really old being around all those college kids, but we had the best time.
Sunday we decided to go spend the day somewhere in Michigan. I wanted somewhere on Lake Michigan, and I hit the jackpot when I found this little town, St. Joseph. The absolute cutest town I've ever seen. We drove down this street overlooking the lake, and they were having a huge antique sale. We walked up and down it and found some really cute things! Then we ate lunch at a restaurant there, and I had lobster mac and cheese...delicious!! We went down to the beach for a while. I was sad the kids weren't there. They would have loved it!! I have never seen so many people at a beach in all my life.

What a fun, much-needed mini vacation for Daniel and me! So thankful for my mom! Always there to help us out.
We had a ton of rain, and of course Colt was in hog heaven.
Tuttle Orchards is open for fall, and we got to go one week when they didn't have any field trips planned. We played, picked apples, went on a hayride, and went through the corn maze.
It was for real a corn maze, and it took us forever to get out. I thought we were going to have to move there.
One day we just went out and had an Indy day. We went to Broad Ripple Park. I knew that there are tons of trees there and it wouldn't be too hot. Then we went to get a popsicle at Nicey Treat. It probably wasn't the best idea to eat them outside in the 90 degree heat. Colt was in tears with his popsicle dripping everywhere. Then we went to Indy Reads and found some fun books. We had to stop and dance with Ann, and we found the Indy sign right across the street. So we took our millionth picture with it.
The Carmel farmers market was almost over and we hadn't been, so we got up early one Saturday and headed that way. It was actually cold! We got a waffle and cookie, then the kids rode their bikes on the Monon. So much fun! Keeping Colt from running over everyone was a job!
Among all the fun we've been having, we had a tragedy also. The weekend after Daniel and I had our trip our sweet dog Shorty started having seizures. Without the money for tons and tons of tests, the doctors could only speculate what was wrong. After a few days of watching her get worse, we made the tough decision to put her to sleep. It was so hard to say goodbye to our last pup. She had just turned 14. She was the sweetest, cuddliest, loving dog, and we will miss her so much.
Colt made her this bed out of a box, and he was so excited when she got into by herself.
She used to hide in the closet or behind the bed upstairs when there was a thunderstorm.
Daniel got rained out one day, so we went to the Apple Store at Conner Prairie and found some yummy goodies.
In the next couple weeks I want to fit in as much Indy stuff as I can. We'll be leaving here soon to places unknown. Gypsy life at its finest.
